SUPER BLOG

It has been a little while since I posted anything... ok a big while. And lots of exciting things have happened!

Like: I went to visit my family for a few weeks and Amber came to visit me and then we went to Idaho to play with her fun family! That was a good break, it much needed and the length was just right I think.

Also: I was officially accepted into graduate school! Of course this messed with my financial aid, but I think everything is starting to clean itself out.
And: I got a new job! I nanny twice a week for a family. Just 1 little girl (about 8 months) so we play, we nap, we have a great time.

Let's see, what else? OH YEAH! I'M ENGAGED!!

That's right bloggers- sweet little me has landed herself a fiance. Soon to be husband. :)

I think most people have heard the story from one of us, but I'm gonna tell it again and add some little tidbits that may have been left out of some stories. Mostly for my own good, I have yet to write it down!
Setting: January 23rd, 2010. There was a high of 47 that par
tly cloudy Saturday. (Yeah, I looked it up... so what?) The sunset was at 5:34 (Evan looked it up)

Prologue: Evan and I had been talking about the possibility of getting married for a few months. However, anytime I brought up a timeline he said, "I'm workin on it." [*chuckling*] So I just gave up on expecting it to come anytime soon.
A few days before the proposal, Evan made a comment that we hadn't gone out on a nice date in a while. So he said, "You get dressed up and I'll take you out to dinner. We'll go to your favorite restaurant." I guess that should have been clue #1. Especially considering a few days prior he had - what I thought was jokingly- said, "You wear a size 12 rin
g, right?" To which I corrected him, "No, remember? a six!"

Well, I couldn't pick a favorite restaurant, because I don't have on
e. I have a handful of places I like to go, but it just depends on my mood. We decided on Sticky Rice since we both felt a taste of sushi would be nice.

Friday night, I went to dinner at Dave & Busters with Evan and his family. I was sitting next to him, on the corner of the table. He kept getting text messages and turning this phone away from me. Now, usually I don't look at his texts, I don't need to. But he has never outright denied me the opportunity. It just struck my curiosity so I started giving him a look like "whacha doin?" He looked at me and said "Do not look at my phone." It didn't really bother me, it just made me more curious. But I let it go. I figured he was planning so
mething up and I didn't want to spoil the surprise. Clue #2

Saturday I was expecting him to come visit before our date, then I
got a call that he wasn't coming cause he was, "running errands." I made a joke about him spending too much time with his second girlfriend and then he said he would pick me up around 4:30. Clue #3 (kinda, it wasn't really out of the ordinary, but added with the other recent events.)

He finally came to pick me up and we were ready to go! Ok, Clue #4- he grabbed a coat he had left at my apartment, went out to his car, then came back. Again, not too crazy, but how often do people come in to grab a coat and then go back outside for just a minute?

So, we drive downtown and then he says "we just need to make a
quick stop." And we start heading toward the river, which I kno
w means Belle Isle. (Clue #5a)

Side note- When Evan and I first started spending time together we went dow to Belle Isle in the mornings and read before I went to work. It was really relaxing and casual and soon lead to us dating. Then after we broke and got past the whole 'we used to date' thing and started being friends again we made our way down to the river to spend warm days under the sun :). There was also one time we went to watch the sunrise over the pedestrian bridge. (It was overcast and cold... so no luck)

We get to Belle Isle and I noticed it was getting dark and began a typical round of "remember when" questioning. "Hey! Remember that time we watched the sunrise from the bridge?" To which Evan responded, "Yes, that's kinda the memory I was going for." So me all smiley he walks me down the path (at a pretty break neck pace might I add) getting towards the area where less and less people are, and less places to get to the river. FINALLY He picks some bushes to walk through, dragging me down the path with branches whipping back at me (ok, a little exaggerated, but not too much). And then the bushes thin out, and there right before my eyes I see: An overturned tree with a blanket over it, two martini glasses with rose petals in them, rose petals all over the ground, candles (illegal), and a fire pit with a duralog. I looked at him and he said, "Surprise! I wanted to do something nice for you since we haven't in a while."

So we were sitting, sipping sparkling cider, and watching the sunset. It was a wonderful prelude to a date. I was freezing though, and hungry. So while I enjoyed every minute of our slightly illegal romantic date prelude, I was getting ready to be in a heated room. Evan got up and asked if I was ready to leave for dinner. Relieved he didn't decide to picnic dinner I said yes and started to get up to help him. He said, "No, no, you stay and relax, I'll get this." So he picked up his sister's backpack (which was stashed behind a tree) and as he began to pick things up noticed something in the pocket. "What's in here?" (it wasn't an engagement ring). He unzipped the pocket and pulled out a large, padded, square of something. "What is this?" he panicked. [Darn my need to look at everything!] "Honey, that's a pad." "huh?" "A pad. Like... a maxi-pad?" "OH NO!" and dropped the bag down to the ground. Meanwhile, I am laughing hysterically, and he is trying to wipe the cooties off of his hands (It wasn't like it was a used one... he just gets uncomfortable about those things).

From my seat on the overturned tree, laughing myself silly, I continued with a round of "remember whens." "Remember that time you put your hand in my coat pocket and insisted on figuring out what was in there even though I told you to leave them alone and it was a tampon?" More laughing.

"Remember that time you were digging through the refrigerator and you just had to know what was in every corner and drawer and bag and you found birth control?"
More laughing.

Evan, wondering how he was going to come back from this teasing session, suggested I try to remember some 'happier' things. So I decided on: "Remember that time you kissed me by the river?" To which he responded with "yeah, that was nice" and then kissed me. As we were standing there, enjoying the presence of each other and the setting sun, Evan threw one in- "Remember that time I proposed to you at the river?"

Now, obviously I didn't since it hadn't happened yet. So I said no. This is when the out of body experience started. It was like, I knew what was happening but I had no control over it, but I did, but not. It was weird. In the good way. But for some reason I was still a little unbelieving that it was happening until-
Evan said, "well you might now." And got down on one knee. I looked into his eyes and could see just NERVOUSness all over him. Being the observer he is, he took a scan of the surroundings to try and calm himself I suppose, and he looked back at me and said, "gosh, there's a guy watching." So we paused for a minute, to give the scary bum a chance to walk away. I put my hands on Evan's neck and could feel his heart RACING. Like, 300 beats a minute kind of racing. like he had just run two miles.

Well, scary bum didn't leave so Evan decided to just go on with his speech. Which went as follows:

"Sarah, I want you to know that I really love you a lot and I look forward to spending the rest of my lief with you and so I have to ask you, Will you marry me?"
I said yes and-relieved- he said "then you can have this!" And pulled out a ring. It's beautiful by the way. :)

Eventually the bum left and we finished packing up and left Belle Isle as the sun continued to set. By the time we got to the bridge it was dark and we walking pretty quick because it was also COLD.

We went to sticky rice after that and then started our weekly tradition of cheesecake friday. Every friday we get one piece of cheesecake, until we have tried every one on the list. We predict we should be done about mid october. There are like 40 desserts on this list. But it is something for us to look forward too. And who knows, maybe once we finish we can have baskin robbins friday and try every ice cream flavor.

Ok, THAT is the story. It took me a few days to finish, but I finally did and I am proud!!
Sorry if it was long and boring for you, but it was more for me anyhow!
